In Chattanooga, a tattoo removal session is usually somewhere between $75 and $800, depending on size. A tiny word can land near the bottom of that range. A sleeve or back piece lands at the top. The number that matters is the total: sessions times price, confirmed at a free consultation, not the cheapest sticker on a website. Nothing below is a quote for your tattoo. It is the local band to budget against before you book.
Local bands, by size
Chattanooga sits below the national median. It is a mid-size market, not a coastal city, and urban clinics elsewhere commonly charge 15 to 30 percent more for the same treatment. Nationally, small tattoos (about 1 to 3 square inches) are often quoted at $100 to $250 a session, medium work at $250 to $400, large work at $400 to $500 and up, and sleeves or full backs at $800 to $1,500 or more. A national per-session average band sits roughly around $148 to $484, and a full removal, all in, is often framed as $1,300 to $7,000. Observed entry pricing in this market for the smallest work starts around $75 to $85 a session. Reasonable Chattanooga bands to publish, always with the consultation caveat, look like this:
| Tattoo | Per session | Typical sessions | Realistic total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tiny, under 2 sq in | $75 to $125 | 4 to 8 | $350 to $900 |
| Small, 2 to 4 sq in | $100 to $175 | 5 to 10 | $600 to $1,500 |
| Medium, palm to hand-size | $175 to $300 | 6 to 12 | $1,200 to $3,000 |
| Large, forearm panel | $300 to $450 | 8 to 14 | $2,600 to $5,500 |
| Half or full sleeve, back piece | $450 to $800 | 10 to 15 | $4,500 to $10,000 |
| Fade for a cover-up, any size | Same per session | 3 to 5 | About 40% of full removal |
| Cosmetic tattoo or PMU | $150 to $300 | 2 to 6 | $400 to $1,200 |
A finger word and a forearm panel are not the same product. Small tattoo removal is cheap per visit and still slow if the ink sits on a hand, ankle, or foot, where blood supply is poor. Large tattoo removal costs more per visit because the area is large, and it is usually staged in sections rather than blasted in one sitting. Session math for both is in how many sessions you will need.
The cheap session is often the expensive removal
Compare totals, in writing, before you pay anyone. Nine sessions at $99 come to about $890. Six sessions at $140 come to $840, finish sooner, and spare the skin three extra rounds of injury. The low sticker wins the advertisement and loses the job when the settings are timid or the clinic books you every four weeks.
Four-week intervals are a pricing problem dressed up as a schedule. Immune clearance is the slow step, and 10 to 12 weeks between visits generally removes more ink per session than rushing. A clinic that needs fourteen passes at a discount rate can cost more than a clinic that needs seven at a fair one. How the laser and the immune system split that work is covered in how laser tattoo removal works.
Colour moves the total as much as square inches. Black line work is the inexpensive end of a given size. Green, teal, and light blue add visits. Yellow and white may never clear, and paying for a long package against white ink is how people waste money. Ask for the colour read at the consult, not after session five.
Fading is the discount almost nobody leads with
Most people ask for complete removal and get quoted a long package. If a cover-up artist only needs the old tattoo light enough to hold new ink, you stop at 3 to 5 sessions. Same per-session price, about 40 percent of the full-removal spend, done in roughly three to six months instead of 12 to 24. That is the single most useful money fact on this site.
Tattoo fading for cover-ups is a real service, not a consolation prize. Complete tattoo removal is the right buy when you want bare skin, or as close as the ink allows, and you are willing to pay for the extra year. Ghosting, a faint leftover shadow, is common even after a full course, so “complete” should be priced as a range of outcomes, not a guarantee. If a consult will not say that before you prepay, read how to choose a clinic before you hand over a card.
Prepaid packages, and who they suit
Many clinics discount 15 to 25 percent if you prepay a block of sessions. Take that discount only after the session estimate is one you believe. Buying ten when you need six is not 20 percent off. It is four sessions you did not need, paid in advance, at a clinic that now has no reason to stop early.
A written range from a free consult is the local norm. Every competitor you are likely to call offers one. Use it. Bring the tattoo, or a clear photo in daylight, and leave with a session range and a price band before you commit. The bands on this page will not match every tattoo. Layered cover-ups, dense colour, distal placements, and darker Fitzpatrick types all push toward the high side.
What people here are usually paying to fix
Clinical work around the hospitals, and military or federal appearance rules, are a common reason someone prices a hand, neck, or forearm tattoo. That is a market pattern, not a claim about any employer’s policy. Manufacturing work is often more permissive until a role is customer-facing. In Southside and Northshore, a lot of the request is fading saturated colour from the late 2010s so a better tattoo can sit on top. Cosmetic brows are their own row in the table: a test spot first, then a short course, not a sleeve package.
Season changes the bill quietly. June and July hit UV index 11. Start in May and you skip summer visits or cover the tattoo through humid 88°F heat. A skipped visit is a month you still wait. September or October lets you bank sessions while UV is low. The aftercare that protects money already spent is in aftercare in a humid climate.
Treat every figure above as a budget and the consultation as the quote. The mechanism, if you want it before you talk price, is how the laser actually works. The short version of a consult is on the homepage.
